WSOP Tour
Last night started our WSOP Tournament Tour. Basically, there are 20+ of us who get together on the third Monday of every month over the course of 1 year to play a multi-table No Limit Hold Em tournament for points (there is a payout for the top 3 finishers each month). At the end of the year, the person who has the most points wins around $11,000 which they must use to enter the Main Event at the WSOP. I finished 8th overall (out of 27 players) last year which is pretty decent considering I had a stretch of 4 months or so where I played terribly and scored hardly any points. Obviously, this year I'm planning on putting myself in a position to win the whole thing.
Most of the players this year are new to the tournament and played very aggressive last night which was not entirely unexpected. I was involved in less than 10 hands all night. I won the first hand with a pair of 3's that we checked all the way down. I considered this to be a bad omen from the start. I dumped a bunch of chips off to a guy after I hit a set of 7's on the turn and he made his nut flush on the river. I got them all back and then some after my pair of kings in the hole beat a pair of jacks my opponent made on the flop. After that, the cards went very cold for me and I simply couldn't justify getting involved in a hand. I spent the rest of the night folding away most everything I had. I did make it to the final table and ended up earning 17 points which I consider a good victory. I figure that when all is said and done, the overall winner will need to average somewhere between 15 to 18 points per month. So, things have gotten off to a good start. Now I just need to maintain!
